  • The axolotl is considered an amphibian; however, they barely ever live above water.
  • One of these small, salamander like creatures can live up to 15 years.
  • They can grow to about 12 inches long, the length of two U.S. dollar bills side by side.
  • They can weigh up to 8 ounces, about the same weight as a newborn, human, baby.
  • They can be found around Mexico City, Mexico but they are critically endangered, at the time of this post.
  • They are quite often albino, without having pigmentation, but they can also be brown and black.
  • They are carnivorous. They eat mollusks, worms, insect larvae, crustaceans, and even some small fish.
